Poem: And now I speak

And now, I
speak.

(I write the things of my soul.)

My soul delighteth
my heart pondereth continually.

Nevertheless.
My heart sorroweth.
My soul grieveth.
My heart exclaimeth:
wretched man that I am!

I am encompassed about--
--the temptations and the sins--
--when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth.

Nevertheless.
I know in whom I have trusted.

My God
My Support.

He hath preserved me,
filled me with his love
unto the consuming of my flesh.

He hath confounded mine enemies.
He hath heard my cry by day.
He hath given me knowledge.
My voice have I sent up on high
and angels came down.

Mine eyes have beheld great things.

Why should my heart weep?
My soul linger in the valley of sorrow?
My flesh waste away? My strength slacken?
Why am I angry?

Mine afflictions?

Why should I yield to sin?--
--that the evil one have place in my heart?
To destroy my peace and afflict my soul?

Awake, my soul!

Rejoice, O my heart!

Cry unto the Lord!

I will praise Thee forever, the Rock of my salvation.

(This poem was written from a collection of phrases found in 2 Nephi 4 of "The Book of Mormon)
